Aklesia Maereg

Aklesia Maereg (she/they) grew up all around the suburbs of Northern Virginia and graduated with their degree in Public Policy and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Post-graduation, they worked at a policy organization based in D.C. where they had the opportunity to evaluate affordable housing initiatives using federal and state-level data. Prior to coming to graduate school, they worked as a 6th grade math teacher in Greensboro, NC through Teach for America, an AmeriCorps affiliate organization dedicated to increasing education equity nationwide. Aklesia loves to cook, take long walks, and is excited to experience their first Michigan winter!
