Hien Le
Hien Le is a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Michigan, where her research focuses on family formation and life-course decision-making in comparative and global contexts. She is particularly interested in how structural constraints – such as housing markets, labor precarity, and welfare regimes – interact with cultural norms and state policies to shape young people's aspirations and choices.
At the Youth Policy Lab, Hien works as a Research Assistant on projects related to youth policy and education governance, drawing on her methodological training in both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Before joining the University of Michigan, Hien earned her bachelor's degree from Harvard University. She is motivated by policy research that bridges sociological theory and empirical evidence to inform equitable, people-centered interventions. Outside of her academic work, Hien enjoys landscape photography and traveling, interests that reflect her appreciation for place, history, and social context.
