Anna Erickson

Anna Hart Erickson is a senior project manager for the Youth Policy Lab, focusing on education and early childhood research. Prior to joining the Lab, Anna taught high school social studies and was an account manager for a marketing firm. She holds an MPP from the Gerald R Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan and also a BA in education from the University of Michigan. Outside of work, you can often find Anna out on the water (frozen or thawed!) with her family, making the most of living in the Great Lakes state.

Early Literacy and Math

Early literacy and mathematics skills are critical to the future success of students across a variety of academic and life outcomes. The transition from PreK to kindergarten through third grade is a particularly critical window for building and sustaining these foundational skills. Elementary and Secondary Education

Public education is one of the foundational principles of American society and youth spend a significant amount of their lives in schools. But access to a high quality education remains uneven, with disparities impacting educational opportunities and outcomes. Leveraging deep expertise in education policy, YPL’s research in this area has included the study and evaluation of programs and policies for kindergarten through 12th grade. Early Intervention

The first three years of life are crucial for cognitive and physical development. Identifying developmental delays early and offering early intervention services during this time can greatly affect a child’s future education, behavior, health, and overall life outcomes. YPL works with state and local governments, medical institutions, and nonprofit organizations, using rigorous data-driven methods to identify persistent issues that prevent eligible families from accessing early intervention programs.
